How many Cavalettis should I use in canter work?

To begin with, you can practice over just one cavaletti to start so that you can establish a good canter and distance, then start adding more on. When you start, don’t use more than two cavalettis so as not to overwhelm your horse. Once more established, you can add as many cavalettis as you like, depending on your horses age, level, and fitness! Once you’re really confident over cavalettis, you can try them out on a curving line.

Can I use Cavalettis for trot pole exercises?

Yes! Cavalettis can be used for all sorts of exercises. They’re especially useful when using pole work to train impulsion in your horse as the horse has to work harder to get the elevation over the raised poles.

Are Cavalettis suitable for any horse?

Any horse or pony can benefit from Cavaletti work! As long as the horse is fit enough then they will absolutely benefit from some Cavaletti exercises. If your horse is young or inexperienced, take some time to get them fit and introduce the Cavalettis slowly into their routine. Even little ponies can use Cavalettis with lots of success!
